The Prime Time Desserts collection is open for posting. Criteria for fics are medium-sized fandoms, over a thousand words, completed, and in English. If you're unsure of what constitutes a medium-sized fandom for Prime Time Desserts, you can check out the tag set from the 2014 round (some fandoms may have grown to megafandom status since then) or the NPT eligibility post.

January and February prompts are still open. The sky's the limit when it comes to these prompts. Take them however you want:

Threesomes/Moresomes: Pairings with three or more characters in it with plenty of stories to tell. Maybe it's a one night stand or a couple picking up a third temporarily or permanently. Maybe it's a V-relationship (A/B, B/C, but not A/C together in the relationship) or everyone in the moresome are dating each other equally.

Worldbuilding: This type of fic focuses more on the world (mytharc of the canon or the setting itself) instead of the characters themselves. Canon or original characters can be the filter in which the audience explores a location or delve into the mytharc. Maybe you want to write about Roy Harper living in the Glades, both before and after the quake (Arrow) or the average person with psychic ability just trying to live their lives under the radar in Push (2009).

Crossover/Fusion: While the two are similar, a crossover is a "story in which two or more fandoms are combined in some way" and "the most common form, characters from Fandom A may meet characters from Fandom B." Fusions, on the other hand, are "where characters from one fandom (Fandom A) may be imported into the setting of another fandom (Fandom B). Fandom A characters may take on the roles of Fandom B characters" and "not interact with Fandom B characters at all, or only very peripherally" Fanlore article). Agents of SHIELD characters with daemons like from His Dark Materials is a fusion. Sidney Crosby (Hockey RPF) hanging out with the Vorkosigan Saga characters is a crossover.

As a general tagging note, if your fic contains a crossover with main characters from both fandom(s), then tag those fandoms in the fandom tag. However, if your fic is a fusion with no characters from Fandom B, only characters from Fandom A and just elements/settings from Fandom B, only use Fandom A in the fandom tag and fusion tags in the additional tags section for Fandom B. We don't want to spam Fandom B with Fandom A fics, especially when Fandom B tends to be smaller and their pages are filled with other fandom fics (think His Dark Materials where pretty much 90% of the stories there aren't actual His Dark Materials fics).

Minor Characters: As the title suggests, these are fics that are focused on the minor characters of a canon instead of the main characters. Maybe a minor character that only appeared in a single episode caught your attention. Or maybe you want to explore a minor character's background or love life, whether or not with an original character or a main character.

The sky's the limit when it comes to these prompts. Take them however you want:

Alternate Universe: "(often abbreviated as "AU") is a descriptor used to characterize fanworks which change one or more elements of the source work's canon" (Fanlore article). There are many routes your AU can take: Mundane if your fandom is fantasy/sci-fi/supernatural, superpowered if your fandom is mundane, putting your characters in different setting like a rock star AU or a royalty AU, or a period-based AU like a Western AU or a historical AU. Check the AO3 tags on alternate universes for ideas.

Femslash: "Refers to a genre of fan fiction featuring female characters involved in a romantic or sexual relationship. In English, it is the most common media fandom term for homosexual relationships between female characters" (Fanlore article). There are plenty of femslash pairings, both within a particular fandom or with crossover potential, that can be written about using any sort of trope or kink. Maybe you'll write femslash PWP dubcon with wings. Or maybe you'd prefer writing femslash fic where they've been friends forever and start dating with first time kisses. Or maybe you prefer writing a rival femslash fic with plenty of hatesex.

Porn: Refers to "sexually explicit fanworks that are created at least in part to arouse the reader or viewer" (Fanlore article). This can be hardcore porn with fluids and sweat and explicit positions galore or softcore porn with swelling music and soft lights and less explicit descriptions. However, porn isn't just sexual but can satisfy emotional needs with categories like food porn or comfort porn or identity porn.

Characters of Color: These are the characters within a fandom that you'd call non-white, of color, chromatic - whatever you call them, this theme is all about celebrating works featuring these characters. Maybe you want to explore Skye's new relationship with Melinda May (Agents of SHIELD). Or write about Shindou Hikaru's quest to play the Divine Move (Hikaru no Go). Maybe one day a shadow agency taps Idris Elba to become a real life secret agent (RPF) to go undercover and save the world.

Prime Time Desserts also comes with extra desserts in the form of opt-in achievement desserts. If you want to opt-in for desserts, you can comment on any Prime Time Dessert post with your fics (the easiest way to do this is clicking the Share button at the top of your fic and copy/pasting that information to a Prime Time Desserts post) along with what theme(s) they were written for and, at the end of each month, fics will be tallied up and achievements will be given out. The categories are hidden until someone achieves one and the achievements are posted at the end of each month.

The sky's the limit when it comes to these prompts. Take them however you want:

Hurt/Comfort: "Hurt/comfort is a fan fiction genre that involves the physical pain or emotional distress of one character, who is cared for by another character. The injury, sickness or other kind of hurt allows an exploration of the characters and their relationship" (Fanlore article). But maybe you prefer your hurt/comfort with more hurt instead of comfort. Or maybe you prefer to go a different route and like more comfort instead of hurt.

Gen: "A fanwork that contains no romantic or sexual content, either het (heterosexual) or slash (homosexual)" (Fanlore article). Characters out on adventures or solving a mystery may be what you like. Or writing about character introspection or their backstory. Maybe you're more into "bob" as gen - "a recent term used by some fanfic writers as a variance of gen to indicate a story that has sexual elements or pairings, but those are not central" (Fanlore article) - and want to write about your favorite slash/femslash/het pairing, focusing more on their gen adventure.

Song Lyrics: Songs can inspire a writer from its music or from the lyrics themselves. Whatever part of the song it is that inspires you, or if you want to to try and fit actual lyrics into your fill, or title your fic with a song lyric or summarize your fic with a song title, these are all acceptable.

Renewal: This theme can be taken in plenty of different ways. Maybe you prefer starting fresh with a character's profession, relationships, locations, or just starting anew in something else entirely. Change is the name of the game unless you prefer a confirmation that you want more of the same.

Because there's always room for desserts.

During our off months, starting January 2015 (to April 2015 this year), Not Prime Time will be hosting a medium-sized fandoms prompt challenge called Prime Time Desserts. NPT will post 4 general themes per month that people can write for and upload to this collection. The fills need to be completed, in English, and over 1000 words. Think comment_fic or fic_promptly, except the prompts are the four themes every month.

The four themes from previous months can be written for the current month, so if you miss a theme, you can still write for it.

Every fic that gets uploaded to Prime Time Desserts will be promoted on the Not Prime Time tumblr with fandom and character tags.

Writing for Prime Time Desserts does not make a banned participant eligible for NPT or eligible for a participant to vote in Lucky Number Seven.
